Wema Bank has begun a new move that is drawing attention across Nigeria as applicants of the Youth Economic Intervention and De-Radicalization Programme, known as YEIDEP, confirm they are now receiving official account numbers directly from the bank.
On August 15, 2025, reports started spreading rapidly online as several beneficiaries shared SMS messages showing their Wema Bank YEIDEP accounts had been activated. For many who have been waiting in uncertainty, this fresh development is bringing back hope that the long-promised disbursement may finally begin soon.
The programme has faced delays and communication gaps over the past few months, which created frustration among applicants. Initially, a disbursement promise was made for Batch A between July 1 and July 31, 2025. Later, another notice claimed that payments would take place between October 20 and October 30, 2025.
Despite these claims, there was no official confirmation from YEIDEP or the federal government, leaving many in doubt. Now, with Wema Bank actively sending messages to applicants, confidence is slowly returning that the process may not be abandoned after all.
Screenshots of the bank’s messages are circulating widely on platforms like Facebook, WhatsApp, and Twitter, with excited beneficiaries confirming receipt. This public reaction shows how eager the youth are to finally see results from YEIDEP after months of silence.
According to details in the unofficial circular that previously circulated, beneficiaries’ details were expected to be collected between September 1 and September 10, 2025, with further engagement between September 11 and October 11, 2025. While this timeline still lacks official approval, the start of account activation by Wema Bank suggests that the plan may indeed be moving forward.
The YEIDEP initiative was launched to empower young Nigerians by providing them with direct access to economic support, training, and opportunities to build financial independence. Every update connected to the programme, whether through circulars or bank activities, sparks immediate discussions online because of the large number of youths depending on it. With unemployment and financial hardship still affecting many families, even the smallest progress in YEIDEP is welcomed as a positive sign.
For now, it appears only Wema Bank has started sending out YEIDEP account details, but other partner banks are also expected to follow soon. Beneficiaries are being advised to remain cautious and avoid falling victim to fraudsters pretending to be official representatives of the programme.
Applicants are reminded that they do not need to pay any money to access their YEIDEP benefits. This warning has become especially important since the viral SMSes began trending, as scammers may try to take advantage of the situation.
Below is the viral SMS:
“Congrats! Your YEIDEP application is complete, and your Wema account (number) is active. Stay tuned for more info.”
